Product Description:
SUGATAB® – M3/850 is a fixed-dose combination of Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin secretion, and Metformin, a first-line biguanide that enhances insulin sensitivity. It is formulated for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who require stronger glycemic control and are not adequately managed on lower-dose combinations or monotherapy. This higher-strength formulation supports HbA1c reduction, post-meal glucose control, and long-term diabetes management.
Key Benefits:
-
Dual mechanism targets insulin resistance and secretion
-
High-strength dose for patients with moderate to advanced T2DM
-
Controls both fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels
-
Helps reduce HbA1c effectively with once-daily dosing
-
Cost-effective treatment with broad therapeutic reach
How it works:
-
Glimepiride stimulates insulin release from functional pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner
-
Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake by muscles and fat
Together, they provide broad-spectrum glucose control throughout the day.
How to use:
-
Take one tablet once daily, preferably with breakfast or the first major meal
-
Swallow whole with water — do not split or chew
-
Dose should be individualized based on patient response and physician’s recommendation
-
Maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet, and exercise plan alongside medication
Safety Advice:
-
May cause hypoglycemia if meals are skipped — always eat after taking the tablet
-
Gastrointestinal discomfort (due to Metformin) may occur initially
-
Avoid alcohol to reduce risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia
-
Regular monitoring of blood glucose, kidney function, and HbA1c is recommended
Precautions:
-
Not recommended in type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or severe renal/hepatic impairment
-
Caution in elderly, debilitated, or malnourished patients
-
Not to be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless medically advised
-
