Product Description:
TELVICTOR® – 400mg Injection contains Teicoplanin, a long-acting glycopeptide antibiotic used in the treatment of severe Gram-positive bacterial infections, including MRSA, Streptococcal, Enterococcal, and Staphylococcal infections.
It is widely used in hospital-acquired infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, bacteremia, and infective endocarditis. Its prolonged half-life enables once-daily dosing and makes it a preferred option over vancomycin in several clinical scenarios due to less nephrotoxicity.
Key Benefits:
-
Effective against MRSA and resistant Gram-positive organisms
-
Can be administered by IV or IM route
-
Long half-life enables once-daily dosing
-
Well-tolerated with a lower risk of nephrotoxicity compared to vancomycin
-
Used in serious infections including osteomyelitis, sepsis, and endocarditis
How It Works:
Teicoplanin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the D-Ala-D-Ala terminal of peptidoglycan precursors. This action prevents cross-linking, weakening the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and death, particularly effective in Gram-positive cocci including MRSA, MSSA, and Enterococci.
How to Use:
-
Reconstitute the vial with sterile water for injection
-
Administer by IV infusion, IV bolus, or IM injection as per physician’s instructions
-
Loading dose: 400 mg every 12 hours for 3 doses, followed by 400 mg once daily (based on infection type and severity)
-
Should be used under strict medical supervision in hospital settings
Safety Advice:
-
Monitor renal function and blood counts regularly, especially during prolonged use
-
Adjust dose in renal impairment
-
Use cautiously in patients with known glycopeptide allergy
-
Avoid rapid infusion to reduce risk of “red man syndrome”
Precautions:
-
Not recommended for pediatric use without clinical guidance
-
Inspect solution for particulate matter or discoloration before administration
-
Do not mix with other drugs unless compatibility is established
-
Store below 25°C; protect from light
