Product Description:
SEFTIZOX®-SB 1.5gm Injection combines the third-generation cephalosporin Ceftizoxime with the beta-lactamase inhibitor Sulbactam, providing broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage, especially against beta-lactamase producing pathogens.
This synergistic combination is highly effective in treating complicated respiratory tract infections, abdominal infections, UTIs, sepsis, and post-operative infections, where resistance to standard antibiotics is suspected.
Key Benefits:
-
Broad-spectrum action against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria
-
Effective in polymicrobial infections, including resistant strains
-
Sulbactam neutralizes beta-lactamase enzymes, enhancing efficacy of ceftizoxime
-
Suitable for ICU, surgical, and hospital-acquired infection management
-
Available for IV or IM administration
How It Works:
-
Ceftizoxime: A third-gen cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
-
Sulbactam: Inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting ceftizoxime from degradation
Together, they ensure enhanced antibacterial activity even against resistant organisms, offering faster and more reliable treatment outcomes.
How to Use:
-
Reconstitute with sterile water or compatible IV fluid
-
Administer via slow IV infusion, IV bolus, or deep IM injection, as advised by a physician
-
Dosage varies based on infection site, severity, and patient’s renal function
-
For hospital use only, under supervised medical care
Safety Advice:
-
Monitor renal function, especially in elderly or renally impaired patients
-
Observe for signs of hypersensitivity or superinfection during prolonged use
-
Adjust dosage in renal insufficiency
-
Avoid rapid IV injection
Precautions:
-
Use cautiously in patients with a history of cephalosporin or penicillin allergy
-
Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or stored as per guidelines
-
Do not mix with calcium-containing IV solutions (e.g., Ringer’s lactate)
