Product Description:

AZIDEL® – AZ Injection delivers Azithromycin 500mg, a powerful macrolide antibiotic used in the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections, especially in hospitalized patients. It is effective against upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, community-acquired pneumonia, and certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Its long half-life and broad-spectrum coverage make it ideal for once-daily administration and early IV-to-oral switch therapy.

How It Works:

Azithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, blocking the growth of bacteria. Its long half-life allows for extended tissue penetration and prolonged post-antibiotic effect, making it especially effective for respiratory and soft tissue infections.

How to Use:

• Reconstitute vial with sterile water and dilute in 250ml NS or D5W

• Administer via slow IV infusion over 1–3 hours

• Do not give as IV bolus or IM injection

• Dose and duration to be adjusted based on infection severity and renal/hepatic function

• Use under strict hospital or physician supervision

Safety Advice:

• Monitor liver enzymes in long-term use

• Watch for QT prolongation in cardiac patients

• Avoid use with drugs that affect heart rhythm (e.g., quinolones, antiarrhythmics)

• Use cautiously in renal or hepatic impairment

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with known macrolide hypersensitivity

• Not recommended in patients with myasthenia gravis
