Product Description:
MERODEL®-SB 1.5gm is a potent injectable formulation combining Meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, with Sulbactam, a β-lactamase inhibitor. This powerful synergy offers enhanced coverage against ESBL-producing organisms, multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, and anaerobes.
Designed for use in critical care settings, this injection is ideal for treating severe infections such as hospital-acquired pneumonia, sepsis, intra-abdominal infections, complicated UTIs, and soft tissue infections.
Key Benefits:
-
Effective against ESBL and MDR pathogens
-
Combines bactericidal power with β-lactamase inhibition
-
Excellent tissue penetration, including CSF and lungs
-
Ideal for ICU-grade infections and resistant bacterial strains
-
Supports empirical therapy when culture reports are pending
How It Works:
-
Meropenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to Penicillin-Binding Proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis
-
Sulbactam inhibits β-lactamase enzymes, allowing meropenem to retain its efficacy against resistant organisms
Together, they deliver a broad and enhanced bactericidal action, especially in polymicrobial infections.
How to Use:
-
Reconstitute the vial with sterile water for injection or a compatible IV fluid
-
Administer as slow IV infusion over 15–30 minutes
-
Dosage: Varies based on infection type and severity (e.g., 1.5g every 8 hours)
-
Always administer under medical supervision in a clinical setting
Safety Advice:
-
Dose adjustment required in renal impairment
-
Periodic monitoring of renal and liver function is advised during prolonged use
-
Use cautiously in patients with known β-lactam allergy
-
Avoid mixing with other drugs in the same IV line
Precautions:
-
Do not use if solution appears cloudy or contains particles after reconstitution
-
Store below 25°C; protect from light
-
Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or stored in refrigerator for up to 6 hours
-
Not to be used during pregnancy or lactation unless clearly indicated
-
Monitor for potential CNS effects (e.g., seizures) in renally impaired patients
