Product Description:
MERODEL®-SB 2gm is an advanced combination of Meropenem, a powerful carbapenem antibiotic, and Sulbactam, a β-lactamase inhibitor. This dual combination is designed to manage high-risk, life-threatening infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria, especially in ICU and hospitalized patients.
The higher dose of Sulbactam (1g) offers stronger inhibition of beta-lactamase enzymes, making this formulation especially useful against resistant Gram-negative pathogens, including ESBL, Acinetobacter, and Pseudomonas species.
Key Benefits:
-
Broad-spectrum action against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria
-
Enhanced activity against MDR and ESBL-producing strains
-
Higher sulbactam concentration for superior β-lactamase inhibition
-
Excellent choice for sepsis, nosocomial pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, and complicated UTIs
-
Used in empirical therapy for critically ill patients
How It Works:
-
Meropenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, causing rapid bacterial death
-
Sulbactam blocks bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, protecting meropenem from degradation
Together, they offer potent bactericidal activity, especially in resistant and polymicrobial infections.
How to Use:
-
Reconstitute the vial with sterile water for injection or suitable IV fluid
-
Administer by slow IV injection (3–5 min) or IV infusion over 15–30 minutes
-
Dosage should be tailored by the physician based on infection severity and renal function
-
Use under strict medical supervision in hospital settings
Safety Advice:
-
Adjust dose in patients with renal impairment
-
Monitor renal, liver function, and hematological parameters during extended use
-
Do not mix with other IV drugs in the same line
-
Watch for CNS effects in susceptible patients (e.g., seizures in renal dysfunction)
Precautions:
-
For IV use only; do not administer intramuscularly
-
Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or refrigerated and used within 6 hours
-
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly indicated
-
Use cautiously in patients with known allergy to β-lactam antibiotics
-
Observe for any hypersensitivity reactions
