Product Description:
ZAPTOMYCIN® 300 is a broad-spectrum lincosamide antibiotic injection containing Clindamycin Phosphate, indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive cocci and anaerobes. It is particularly useful in respiratory tract infections, pelvic infections, intra-abdominal infections, bone & joint infections, and sepsis.
Trusted in both hospital and critical care settings, ZAPTOMYCIN® 300 ensures rapid bacterial eradication when oral therapy is not suitable.
Key Benefits:
-
Effective against a wide range of anaerobic and Gram-positive pathogens
-
Rapid action in life-threatening infections
-
Ideal for severe respiratory, gynecological, abdominal, and bone infections
-
Administered IV for systemic infections or IM for localized treatment
-
Useful alternative in penicillin-allergic patients
How It Works:
Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing peptide chain elongation. This bacteriostatic mechanism halts the spread of infection and supports the immune system in clearing pathogens.
How to Use:
-
Administered by trained healthcare professionals only
-
IM or slow IV injection/infusion based on clinical judgment
-
Adults: Typically 600–1200 mg/day divided every 6–8 hours
-
Dose adjusted according to infection severity, patient weight, and renal/hepatic function
-
IV infusion should be given over at least 10–60 minutes depending on the dose
Safety Advice:
-
Monitor for diarrhea or signs of pseudomembranous colitis
-
Use cautiously in hepatic impairment—dose adjustment may be needed
-
Observe for local pain at injection site (IM) or phlebitis (IV)
-
Avoid rapid IV administration to reduce adverse effects
Precautions:
-
Not recommended in patients with a history of colitis or hypersensitivity to clindamycin
-
Avoid mixing with drugs incompatible with clindamycin phosphate
-
Regularly assess liver function and CBC in prolonged therapy
-
Store below 25°C; protect from light
-
For single-use only—discard unused portion after opening
