Product Description:
ZEMDOXY®- 100mg Injection is a parenteral formulation of Doxycycline, a broad-spectrum, long-acting antibiotic from the tetracycline group. It is highly effective against a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, atypical, and intracellular organisms, making it a trusted choice in the management of moderate to severe bacterial infections, especially when oral therapy is not feasible.
This injectable form is particularly useful in hospital settings, including ICUs, where reliable antibiotic coverage is crucial for managing serious infections like community-acquired pneumonia, sepsis, rickettsial infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and malaria prophylaxis.
Key Benefits:
-
High efficacy against atypical pathogens and intracellular bacteria
-
Suitable for use in critically ill or non-oral patients
-
Strong anti-inflammatory properties in rickettsial fevers and zoonoses
-
Long plasma half-life allowing once or twice daily dosing
-
Can be used in combination therapy in resistant cases
How It Works:
Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis at the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing the growth and multiplication of susceptible bacteria. This bacteriostatic action is effective across a broad range of organisms including Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Rickettsia, Borrelia, and more.
How to Use:
-
Reconstitute with sterile water for injection
-
Administer as a slow intravenous infusion over 1–4 hours
-
Typical adult dose: 100 mg once or twice daily based on infection severity
-
To be used only under medical supervision in hospital settings
Safety Advice:
-
Not recommended in pregnant women, nursing mothers, or children under 8 years due to risk of tooth discoloration
-
Use cautiously in hepatic impairment
-
Avoid excessive sun exposure—risk of photosensitivity reactions
-
Monitor liver and renal function during extended therapy
Precautions:
-
Do not administer as a bolus or rapid injection
-
Avoid mixing with calcium-containing IV fluids (e.g., Ringer’s or Hartmann’s solution)
-
Shake well after reconstitution and inspect for particulate matter before administration
-
Should not be used in known tetracycline hypersensitivity
